RULES FOR IMPROVISING
There are NO rules! But here are some helpful ideas to get you started:
- NOTHING you play will be wrong. If it sounds good to you, it’s cool.
- Stay on one note for awhile. Don’t try to do too much. Keep it simple.
- Play simple songs a few times… then mess around with them. Add in some other notes, leave out other notes.
- Most importantly, DON’T WORRY if it sounds “good” or not. This is not for performance. This is just for fun and learning how to “speak” on your instrument.
- Play with something in the background. All of these can be found by searching YouTube.
- Drum beat (or use the Super Metronome app)
- Drone (or use the TonalEnergy app)
- Background music (search for Jamey Aebersold)
